This was the first in a tri series of presentations from ‘The Fathering Project’ that have been made available with support of Emily Hamilton MP for the Joondalup community.
The evening looked at ‘Why Fathering Matters’ and modern day fathering. Providing insight to help navigate a way to be an effective father figure.
The keynote speaker for the evening was former police commissioneer Dr Karl O’Callaghan. This was a tremendous and rare opportunity as he spoke directly about his personal experience of fathering from various perspectives including as a foster dad. It was a frank and open presentation that was thought provoking and provided real perspective on the challenges fathers face and how to deal with them. The Fathering Projects WA state coordinator Paul Valentino also contributed to the evening with ideas and suggestions that were just as valuable.
The evening was strongly attended and had very broad representation from within the Joondalup community and was very well received. One attendee commenting that “Karl was a very inspiring and Paul was also a great speaker. Well done.”
